Drunken Laboratory
The idea for The Drunken Laboratory was born out of a desire to make science more accessible and engaging for all ages. It originally started as an after-school program designed to introduce disadvantaged students to the wonders of science. After leaving my job as a patient coordinator in 2019, I founded Millennial Scnce, a nonprofit dedicated to providing interactive STEM education to underprivileged students. As I developed fun, hands-on curricula, I noticed that adults were just as captivated by the experiments as the kids. This realization led me to explore ways to make science exciting for an older crowd.
In October 2019, I launched ‘Sicnce & Sip,’ an immersive experience where adults could conduct wild science experiments while sipping cocktails with friends. The response was overwhelming, and what started as a small project quickly evolved into The Drunken Laboratory. Without a dedicated venue, reviews, or even social media presence, our first event sold out in just two weeks on Groupon. The experience’s unique blend of interactive experiments, games, a live DJ, and craft cocktails resonated with guests, creating an entirely new way for adults to connect with science.
The momentum continued as The Drunken Laboratory’s website began averaging over 1,500 daily views, making it one of Groupon’s most popular NYC experiences. By March 2020, we expanded to Boston with a temporary installation that sold out four sessions in just days. Now, we’re gearing up to open our second brick-and-mortar location in Atlanta in Fall 2025. My vision remains the same: to bring people together through science in a way that is fun, immersive, and completely unexpected.
Balancing learning, competition, and entertainment is at the heart of The Drunken Laboratory’s success. Each experience is carefully curated to maintain a high-energy atmosphere where guests can challenge themselves intellectually while letting loose and having a great time. My personal approach to balance also plays a role in shaping the experience—I dedicate time to continuous learning, fitness, and personal wellness, which helps me stay sharp and creative in designing engaging events. Similarly, we ensure that every Drunken Lab session incorporates moments of competition, discovery, and pure fun, keeping guests fully engaged from start to finish.
One of the most unforgettable aspects of The Drunken Laboratory is watching guests transform over the course of the night. The excitement builds as they step out of their comfort zones, compete with friends, and dive headfirst into science. Some of the best reactions come during our most intense experiments, where guests are cheering each other on, bursting into karaoke, and going all out to claim the title of “best scientist of the day.” The energy in the room is electric, and those moments of pure joy and enthusiasm are what make this experience so special.
